I've seen this problem before. The company I worked for had a fleet of 20 of the Omega models from 18 to 40 ton. It was noticed during one of the yearly certification inspections that the weld holding the rotation bearing to the frame had begun to crack. Seeing this we inspected the rest of the units, and found several more with this problem. After these findings, all welded rotation bearings were to be inspected visually on a daily basis, and were magnafluxed yearly during the certification inspection. It has now become an automatic process with me if the rotation bearing is welded rather than bolted, no matter who the manufacturer is. Safety after all is the ULTIMATE issue!
